Barely few weeks into the new semester, students of University of Benin, one of Nigeria’s prestigious higher institutions of learning, had cause to be extremely excited when Africa’s singing sensation, Tuface in collaboration with Amstel Malta, the number one premium low sugar malt drink in Nigeria stormed the campus.
The university was
already agog when the news filtered through that Tubaba as Tuface is fondly called by fans, would be performing in the school in the ongoing Campus Connect Tour of Tuface and friends.
As expected, it was a complete shutdown as the event witnessed a mammoth crowd. Over five thousand students were in attendance and the University sports complex -venue of the concert – was a beehive of heightened activity.
Giving the rationale behind Amstel Malta’a partnership with Tuface and friends, Mrs. Adedoyin Owotomo, Brand Manager Amstel Malta, said, “Our partnership with Tuface is borne out of the desire to encourage our consumers at all levels to be the best in whatever they find themselves doing”.
After a thrilling performance that kept the students on their toes for hours, an excited Tuface Idibia, thanked the crowd for coming out to listen to him and his friends and promised to revisit the school again.
Tuface Idibia expressed his excitement about the tour. “I am really excited about this partnership with Amstel Malta and looking forward to more of this. It has been a long time that I interacted with the students; it is going to be an emotional return to these campuses. I have received and still enjoy massive support from these spots. They are my ‘personal’ people.”
Some of the students commended Tuface for coming to perform and for “warming” them up as the new semester begins. Harrison Pius, a 200 level student of Political Science, who sang along with Tuface all through his performance, described the show as inspiring and exciting. “This is my first event since I was admitted into this campus and it has been on point. Some people have tried to organize shows on this campus promising to bring big names but at the end of the day they never show up. Amstel Malta has given us something that I would never forget for a long time to come. They have given me the platform to be the best I can be.” he said.
Another student Jackson, a 300 level student of Chemical Engineering, described Tuface’s performance and even coming to his campus as a dream come true for. In his own words, “I have always fantasized myself standing before Tuface Idibia performing live. Even at home, members of my family know that there is no music that soothes me except Tubaba himself”. He described himself as a die-hard fan. “If Tubaba was a pastor, I will be attending his church, if he was a movement, I will lead others to follow him”.
Similarly, an aspiring young singer on campus, Lima, a 100 level student of Bio Chemistry, shared her venture into music which she said was inspired by Tuface Idibia’s consistency and originality in the music industry has proven to be one of the best. “I have looked up to Tuface and will continue to hold him in high esteem. And my thanks go to Amstel Malta for creating this platform”
Tubaba is stomping the yard with a line-up of friends that guarantees an unforgettable experience for fans. Hypertek’s hot boys Dammy Krane and Rocksteady alongside Vector, and long-time collaborator Sound Sultan are rearing to go.
Other class acts billed for the tour include Sasha P, Seyi Shey, Timi Dakolo, Phyno, Crystals, Harrisong, Capital F.E.M.I Solid Star and Jus’ Kiddin’s EFA. NM En.Core’s Helen Emoh Abutu, project manager for Campus Connect Tour assured fans of a wonderful time. “ We are going to four other campuses as the tour continues with the support of Amstel Malta and some of the best media, technical, security and logistics support outfits in the game”
The next show is billed for May 14 at the University of Port Harcourt and Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu on May 16, while University of Abuja will come alive on May 23.

May D giving advises
A graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Lagos (Unilag), May D released his first singles ‘’Cool Temper’’ and ‘’Soundtrack’ in 2011 to an appreciative level of positive reviews from the industry insiders.
Later that year, he featured on Psquare`s Invasion Album, collaborating on ‘Chop My Money’
which also featured Akon on the remix and on ‘Do as I Do’ which
also had Tiwa Savage on it.
In early 2012, he released his second singles ‘Ile Ijo’, ‘Gat Me High’, and ‘You Want 2 Know Me’, which featured PSquare.
In February 2013, he released ‘So Many Tinz’, which is the official last single before the release of his album.
In this interview with DailyPost, May D speaks about his entire career; how he started, and the journey so far. He also speaks about his Meiden Album launch which holds on May 26, at the ThisDay Dome , Abuja. The event is organized by Abuja number one event Manager, Kehinde Adegbite, Mr. Yankee. His relationship with the Square record is briefly exposed here.
I started as a dancer, with the same name; May D. May D is actually from the name, Mayokun Dumila – May D. There is this usual hurdle associated with any new venture one embarks on. We all went through the same hustle, and we still “dey try”
I started out as a dancer in my secondary school, Kings’ College, Lagos. When I got into the University, Unilag, I started music professionally and even though it was tough because I was in a group facing different challenges, I persevered. There were ups and downs , but after several years, things took shape and here I am today, by God’s grace.
I take everything around me as a source of inspiration in making music. Life is art, and if you know life, you can make several lyrics out of it. Everything seen, touched, and taste should inspire one. I’m always inspired by what I see.
The walk, the dance
Those majestic and flexible walk in most of my videos, especially the twisting of fingers and the leg dance were all learnt in the past, while I was doing dance. Like I said, I started out as a dancer back in my secondary school days, and with all humility, I’ll say I was pretty good at it. So, in a way, that’s just me bringing to the fore what I have always been good at doing.
I will categorize my type of music as pop/R&b. At the moment, I have a number of singles. I had my first singles, ‘’Cool Temper’’ and ‘’Soundtrack’ in 2011 to an appreciative level of positive reviews from the industry insiders.
Later that year, I featured on Psquare`s Invasion Album, collaborating on ‘Chop My Money’ which also featured Akon in the remix and on ‘Do as I Do’ which also had Tiwa Savage on it.
In early 2012, I released my second singles ‘Ile Ijo’, ‘Gat Me High’, and ‘You Want 2 Know Me’, which featured PSquare.
In October 2012, I started my own label, Confam Entertainment and subsequently released ‘Use Me’ and the video for ‘Gat Me High’ to rave reviews.
In February 2013, I released ‘So Many Tinz’, which is the official last single before the release of my album.
My relationship with Peter and Paul is still very cordial. We owe nothing against each other. It was only time for me to just be on my own. I saw that it was time to begin to direct my own ship; aside that, nothing personal.
The industry is very big at the moment, and highly competitive. One has to be above board by churning out creative stuff to measure up to standard. I have just started, and we have to just take it to another level.
Abuja Album Launch
The Abuja Album Launch will be my maiden album concert and we plan to give Abuja a night to remember. I expect the people of Abuja to show the usual love they have always shown towards me. It’s my second home -you know. The official launch holds on May 26 at the Thisday Dome, Abuja. I just expect the usual love from Abuja people. I shall be having other big names in the industry performing with me. 2Face, Davido, Iyanya, Olamide,K-Switch, Reminisce, Gandoki, Klint Da drunk, Emma Nyra and a host of others will join me at the concert.
My advice is directed to all aspiring musicians. They should understand that life is practically an Ecosystem. To survive, you must keep struggling. Keep doing your thing until it’s your time. You can do it. It’s your dream and no one else’s. Keep the positive dreams glowing and work towards it. Don’t sit down there, thinking that your dream will come to you; you can only go to your dream. If May D, Iyanya, 2Face and others can make it, then you have no doubt. All the best.
